Meet Our Team
Dr. Withers graduated from Michigan State University in 1992. He has worked in the Kalamazoo community in private and emergency practice since 1995. He purchased Eighth Street Veterinary Care in 2007 from Dr. Hassing. Dr. Withers especially enjoys the daily interactions with clients and their pets, as well as a special interest in dentistry, surgery, and mammalian exotics. He and his wife have 3 children, 5 cats, and 2 rats! His hobbies include bicycling, golf, and serving at church.
Dr. Penning graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. She first practiced on both livestock and small animals for about 10 years, but has worked exclusively in small animal medicine at Eighth Street for the last 8 years. She has worked in laboratory medicine as well. Dr. Penning splits her time to work on her family landscape business, which is also a personal hobby. She enjoys being outside, primarily hiking, bicycling, running, and gardening. She has a dog and 5 cats. She is married and has 2 children as well as a new grandchild.
Amy began working for Eighth Street Veterinary Care in 2011. She is a Certified Veterinary Assistant and is the staff and hospital facilitator. She has 3 children, 3 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, a bearded dragon, and a leopard gecko! When she is not at work, Amy loves to do yard work and spend time with her kids.
After working for veterinarians for many years, Amy came to Eighth Street Veterinary care in July, 2016. She spent the last 10 years as a dog groomer and while she enjoys grooming, her heart desired to do more for pets and that led her here. She and her husband have 5 dogs and a leopard gecko. In her spare time she loves walking her dogs, watching movies, and having bonfires.
Talisa has worked at Eighth Street Veterinary Care since 2007 and has been working as a Veterinary Technician for 19 years. She loves to go for walks in the park with her family and dogs. Talisa and her husband have 2 daughters, 3 dogs and 2 cats.
Linda has been working at Eighth Street Veterinary Care since 2013. She is currently going to college for Pre-Vet and wants to eventually become a Veterinarian specialized in Oncology. Linda enjoys reading and yoga on her days off and has 1 dog, 2 cats and an aquarium full of fish!
Peggy Simonds Receptionist/Accountant
Peggy has worked at Eighth Street Veterinary Care part time as a receptionist and accountant for many years. She divides her time between the clinic and her local family business. Peggy is married and has 2 married sons and 3 grand kids. She and her husband enjoy spending time at their property up north. Peggy has 2 miniature donkeys, 2 rabbits and 2 dogs.
